About the Experience
Artist Xinye Lin explores the relationship between art, rhythm, culture and philosophy. Her work utilizes all the senses in an active and interactive manner where the depiction of methods to heal the mind, spirit and soul is not constrained to static projections of imagery. Rather inputs are tied to different human and environmental factors. Such factors include motion, emotion, scent, sound and mood.
In this site-specific performance, Lin plays the guzheng, a Chinese zither, working with the CHSA archival collection of historic opera recordings and translating these to digital files as source material to mine and experiment with. What results is an immersive audio video experience combining stunning multi-channel visual projection art, entrancing vocalizations and both live and recorded Classical Chinese music.
Lin, an artist and designer who identifies with the Dong Chinese ethnic minority group, has a background in architecture and urban planning. She received her education at the Rhode Island School of Design and is a professional guzheng performer with 25 years of experience.
